Things to see and do near Hofmann Vineyards · Cochise County, Arizona
Hofmann Vineyards sits at the heart of one of the most historically rich and naturally spectacular corners of the American Southwest. Whether you're staying for a tasting or camping in the vineyard for a few nights, there's no shortage of things to explore within an easy drive.
Whitewater Draw Nature Reserve
One of the great wildlife spectacles of the Southwest. Every late November through February, tens of thousands of Sandhill Cranes descend on Whitewater Draw to winter. The sight and sound of the flocks coming in to roost at dusk — sometimes 30,000 birds at once — is something you won't forget. Free admission. Open year-round, but crane season is the main draw.
Tombstone
The Town Too Tough to Die. Tombstone was the site of the famous Gunfight at the OK Corral in 1881 and remains one of the best-preserved frontier towns in the West. Walk Allen Street, visit the Bird Cage Theatre, tour the OK Corral, and catch a live gunfight reenactment. A full day's worth of history in a compact, walkable downtown.
Bisbee
A Victorian copper-mining town that reinvented itself as one of Arizona's most charming arts communities. Bisbee's steep hillside streets are lined with galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and bars. The Queen Mine Tour takes you underground into the historic copper mine. The town has a genuinely quirky, creative energy unlike anywhere else in the region.
Chiricahua National Monument
A wonderland of volcanic rock formations — towering columns, balanced rocks, and stone spires rising from the Chiricahua Mountains. The monument has over 17 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy walks to strenuous all-day routes. The Massai Point overlook is accessible by car and offers a stunning introduction to the landscape. Also a premier birding destination.
Fort Huachuca & Sierra Vista
Fort Huachuca is one of the oldest active U.S. Army installations in the country, established in 1877. The Fort Huachuca Museum tells the story of the Buffalo Soldiers and the frontier Army. The nearby San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area is world-famous for birding — over 350 species have been recorded along the San Pedro River corridor.
Kartchner Caverns State Park
One of the most spectacular living cave systems in the world, discovered in 1974 and kept secret for 14 years to protect it. Kartchner Caverns features massive stalactites, stalagmites, and rare cave formations still actively growing. Tours are limited in size to protect the cave environment — advance reservations are strongly recommended.
